Being able to have an account in BTC (or another cryptocurrency) is not the same as being able to make a deposit in bitcoin.

When the sportsbook gives you the opportunity to open an account in BTC, this allows you to avoid losses on conversion during deposits and withdrawals.

In addition, you can store your money in bitcoin, waiting for its price to rise further. And at the same time, you can place bets trying to increase the amount of bitcoin in your account.

Opening a cryptocurrency account with a bookmaker

Crypto deposits solve a practical problem for bettors: card payments to bookmakers get declined by banks, e-wallets are unavailable in many countries, and bank transfers take days. A Bitcoin or USDT deposit usually reaches the betting account after one network confirmation — from under a minute on Tron or Litecoin to roughly ten minutes to an hour on the Bitcoin network.

One expectation is worth correcting straight away. Crypto betting is often sold as anonymous. It is not: blockchain payments are pseudonymous, every transaction is public, and almost every licensed bookmaker — including crypto-first brands — will still ask for identity documents before a larger withdrawal. What crypto genuinely gives you is a deposit that no bank can block, not an account without KYC.

Fees depend on the network far more than on the coin:

• USDT on Tron (TRC-20) and Litecoin — cents per transfer, the usual choice for betting
• Bitcoin — from well under a dollar to several dollars when the network is busy
• USDT or ETH on Ethereum (ERC-20) — the expensive option; gas fees can exceed a small deposit itself

If a bookmaker supports several networks for the same coin, the network choice is where the real saving is.

Two risks to price in before depositing. Crypto transfers are irreversible: a wrong address or a wrong network means the funds are gone, and no support team can recall them — always test a new bookmaker with a small amount first. And unless you deposit a stablecoin such as USDT, the exchange rate moves between deposit and withdrawal; a winning bet can lose value in euro terms while it sits in a BTC balance.

Bookmakers also differ in how the account itself works. Some keep your balance in crypto (often shown in mBTC) so you stay exposed to the rate; others convert the deposit to EUR or USDT instantly. Check as well whether the welcome bonus applies to crypto deposits — a number of brands exclude them or run a separate crypto offer.
